Robert Emmett Bowen III, June 18, 1965-August 30, 2010

I cannot imagine anything sadder or harder to grasp. Bob Bowen, my soulmate, friend, and coparent was severely injured in a brutal hit-and-run incident while riding his bicycle in Manhattan on Thursday, August 26. Despite exceptional care at New York Presbyterian's Trauma Center, we lost him Monday night, August 30, just before midnight.

He was loved by so many, and Bobby, Stella, and I are receiving so much love right now. This is only one example. And here is another.

There are no words. Just none.

Amy,
I learned this indirectly today through Antioch Writers' Workshop and can't say how dreadfully sorry I am for your loss. It seems so unfair, and I'm screaming at the universe and at God.

You are one courageous lady and I know you will turn this around in time, but for now, please know that I am praying for you.

Amy, I am so deeply sorry for your loss. You're right--there are no words. I trust that you are surrounded by people who love you and will take care of you through this, but if you need anything at all, please let me know.

I am so sorry for your loss. May your family find strength in this time of sorrow. Bob and I did a number of gigs together, and I had no idea this story in the news was about him. This is so shocking and sad. Thank you for your music and friendship Bob.

So sorry to hear it. You and your children are in my prayers.

On the day he passed, I heard "What's Going on" by Marvin Gaye (which to me summed up Bob). The next song was "Dancing Queen" by ABBA.

Bob was the best teacher I've ever had and I will miss him dearly. He got me my first job and made me a true musician. He was absolutely amazing. My deepest heartfelt sympathies go out to you.

I'm very late here -- yet I'm sending you much love. You're an amazing woman and mother.

May he live on in your memories and your sorrows turn to a smile when you think of him. I'm sure healing was helped with time among family and telling stories of him pouring through photographs of his eternal smile, grin, smirk, or even goofy look into the future. Be well woman.
